Peamutt Peanut Butter FAQ

  • Is peanut butter safe for dogs?

Yes, it is. Many dogs love the taste of peanut butter and will do anything to eat it all with their paws (and tongues). Dog owners should remember that it is high in fat and should only be used as a treat, reward or enrichment and never as a replacement for your dog's meals.

  • Will my dog have stomach problems?

Eating too much fat or oil can cause stomach upset. Some dogs (like their owners) are more sensitive to stomach upset from fatty treats. We recommend starting by giving your dog just a small amount of Peamutt Butter and seeing how he reacts.

  • Why do we use palm oil?

We use a small amount of palm oil mixed into a jar of dog peanut butter (about a teaspoon). This creates a nice, smooth texture that is easy to spread or put into toys. Without this, the components in the product will separate and eventually the oil will seep out of the toy and onto the floor. While we’re sure your dog doesn’t mind licking the floor clean, it’s not a pleasant thing to have to deal with.

  • Is Palm Oil Toxic to Dogs?

Palm oil is not toxic to dogs. You may have heard of dogs being harmed by palm oil that has washed up on beaches. This happens when toxic marine fuel mixes with discarded palm oil, creating a smelly, jelly-like substance that intrigues a dog’s senses. Although it is extremely rare for such high levels of contamination to occur, it poses a serious health risk to both humans and pets and should be avoided. Top tip for when your dog is playing in the sand: avoid any jelly-like substances. This could be the contaminated jelly-like substance, or even a jellyfish (which we definitely don’t want our dogs sniffing or eating!)

  • Is Palm Oil Bad for the Environment?

We understand that the use of palm oil is a complex and controversial concern. Using palm oil from unsustainable sources can cause deforestation and habitat loss. As animal and planet lovers, we are completely against this practice. We only use certified sustainable RSPO palm oil in our products, because supporting ethical use is the only way to make a difference. We work with major environmental charities and organisations including WWF, Chester Zoo and EFECA to ensure we are making a positive impact on our planet.
